OSRS Deadman Mode - Step 3: Enter the Abyss Quest & Quick Lumbridge Tasks

Feb-13-2026 PST

With Varrock and the Gnome Stronghold behind you, Step 3 of the Deadman Mode Annihilation route shifts your focus toward quest progress, fast Thieving levels, and easy Lumbridge and Al Kharid tasks. This stage is critical because it blends safe skilling with mandatory quest setup that unlocks future Rune-related advantages.

OSRS Deadman Mode - Step 3: Enter the Abyss Quest & Quick Lumbridge Tasks

Executed cleanly, Step 3 delivers strong Annihilation point gains while pushing your Thieving toward a competitive breakpoint—all with minimal exposure to dangerous PvP zones.

Step 3 Goals and Strategy

The objectives of this step are simple:

Begin Enter the Abyss, a core quest for Rune access

Stack fast diary-style points in Lumbridge

Power-level Thieving in Al Kharid

Maintain momentum without risking gear

Timing and route efficiency matter here. Follow the order carefully to avoid unnecessary backtracking or danger.

Starting Enter the Abyss Safely

Begin at the Grand Exchange and use the nearby shortcut to move toward the Wilderness Ditch. Walk just north of the ditch to locate the Mage of Zamorak and start the Enter the Abyss quest.

You do not need to fully complete the quest at this stage—starting it is enough to unlock later progression. Keep your inventory light and stay alert, as this area can attract opportunistic PKers early in the tournament.

Once the quest is started, leave the area immediately.

Chronicle Teleport Back to Varrock

Use your Chronicle teleport to return safely to Varrock. This avoids unnecessary travel through high-risk areas and keeps your route efficient.

Head to the southeast altar in Varrock and speak with the Mage of Zamorak there. Continue the dialogue until you receive a Scrying Orb. This item is required for later quest progression and should be secured as early as possible.

Essence Mine Teleport for Easy Points

From Varrock, visit the Rune Shop and use the teleport option to travel to the Essence Mine.

Reward: 15 Annihilation Points

This task is fast, safe, and stacks nicely with earlier Essence Mine interactions. Once you arrive, teleport out immediately to Lumbridge using your preferred teleport method.

Lumbridge is packed with some of the easiest diary tasks in the game, making it perfect for fast points early in Deadman Mode.

Pickpocket a Man

Find any Man in Lumbridge and pickpocket him once.

Reward: 15 Annihilation Points

With earlier Thieving experience already secured, this task is instant and risk-free.

Ask Hans About Your Age

Next, speak to Hans, who wanders near Lumbridge Castle, and ask him about your age.

Reward: 15 Annihilation Points

This is one of the quickest diary tasks available and should never be skipped during an optimized Deadman route.

Transition to Al Kharid

After finishing Lumbridge tasks, head east to Al Kharid. This area is ideal for early Thieving training due to the density of NPCs and relatively low risk compared to other regions.

Make sure your inventory is light and be prepared to move quickly if other players appear.

Thieving Grind: Al Kharid Warriors

Begin pickpocketing Al Kharid Warriors and continue until you reach approximately level 40 Thieving.

Reward: 75 Annihilation Points

This is one of the most efficient early Thieving methods in Deadman Mode. The experience comes quickly, and the points gained here represent a significant jump in your overall total.

Reaching level 40 Thieving early unlocks better money-making and diary opportunities later, making this grind well worth the short time investment.

Optional: Al Kharid Agility Course

If your Agility reaches level 20 during earlier steps or through passive experience, complete one lap of the Al Kharid Agility Course.

Reward: 25 Annihilation Points

This step is optional but highly recommended if available. The course is quick, relatively safe, and offers solid bonus points for minimal effort.

Why Step 3 Is So Important

By the end of Step 3, you will have:

Started a mandatory Rune-related quest

Earned multiple Lumbridge diary completions

Reached a strong early Thieving level

Gained over 145 Annihilation Points in a short time window

Most importantly, you maintain control of your route. Deadman Mode rewards players who move decisively and avoid unnecessary risk, and this step does exactly that.

As competition ramps up, preparation becomes just as important as mechanical skill. Many players streamline their progress by securing gear and supplies early. For those looking to save time and focus on strategy, some choose to buy OSRS gold and DMM Gold through trusted platforms such as the RSgoldfast store, allowing them to stay competitive during critical stages of the tournament.

Step 3 of the OSRS Deadman Mode Annihilation route bridges the gap between safe early setup and more aggressive mid-game progression. It combines quest preparation, fast Thieving gains, and easy diary tasks into one smooth sequence.

Complete this step efficiently, keep your risk low, and you'll enter the next phase of Deadman Mode with strong stats, solid points, and full control of your momentum—exactly where you want to be before the real danger begins.
