Enough combat level to defeat a level 47 Jailer to obtain the Dusty Key.
To start the quest, you must first speak to the NPC named Thormac, who is located on the topmost floor of the Sorcerer’s Tower (South of Seers’ Village). You can get there using the Fairy Ring Network (Code: B*L*R) or an Ardougne Cloak 2 to teleport t the Ardougne Farm. He’ll inform you about his rare Kharid Scorpions and how they escaped. He’ll hand over a Scorpion Cage to catch them and suggest you speak with the Seers that live north of your current location.
Before you continue or progress further in the quest, speak to any Seer located in the Seers’ Village. The Seer will tell you that there’s a Scorpion in a secret room with spiders nearby. So, grab some food, Anti-Dragon/Dragon-Fire Shield, Anti-Poison/Super Anti-Poison Potions, and a Dusty Key, and make your way to the Taverley Dungeon. Using a Falador teleport is the quickest way to reach there, which is if your house isn’t located in Taverley. Alternatively, you can use a Games necklace to teleport to the Burthrope Games Room, a Combat Bracelet to teleport to the Warrior’s Guild, or a House Teleport with POH (Player-Owned House) set to Taverley.
The following section is for players without an Anti-Dragon Shield. Since the first scorpion is wandering around in an area with Blue Dragon, and you haven’t finished Dragon Slayer 1, you can follow an alternative strategy. When you reach the Blue Dragon room, make sure to make the Baby Blue Dragon aggressive to you and hop from one to another while passing through the room. Also, the mentioned strategy isn’t recommended for HCM (Hardcore Ironman) accounts, until or unless you are confident about what you’re doing.
Once you are inside the dungeon, with the help of 80 Agility you can use the shortcut to directly reach the room with Poison Spiders, and the secret room is directly south from there. If you have 70 Agility, you can use the shortcut to skip most parts of the dungeon and reach the room with Blue Dragons. Alternatively, you can take a long way around and use the Dusty Key to open the gate to the Blue Dragons.
You can acquire a Dusty key by heading towards the Black Knight’s Base and killing the Jailer who is located in the eastern part. Yes, he drops a Jail Key which can then be used on the Velrak the Explorer’s cell door. Speak to him and ask him about places to explore in the dungeon to trigger the dialogue where he asks whether you want to go further into the dungeon. So, simply click on yes and he will give you the Dusty Key.
When you reach the Blue Dragons room, walk south and then west past the Black Demons. From there, go north to locate the Poison Spiders, and just south of two coffins, you will come across a small room with a false wall that can be searched to open. When you see a small Scorpion use the cage given to you by Thormac to catch it. Also, it will string you for 3 HP if you try to pick it up.
Return back to the Seers’ Village now and speak to any of the Seer to know the location of the second and third Scorpions. The Seer will mention that a merchant in the Barbarian Village may have one of the two Scorpions. Similarly, he will also mention that the last one is located ‘in some sort of upstairs room near some brown clothing,’ which is the 2nd floor of the Edgeville Monastery.
First head to the Monastery by either teleporting to Falador using the standard spell book, Lassar using the ancient spellbook, Barbarian Village using a Skull Scepter, Edgeville using an Amulet of Glory, or a Combat Bracelet to directly teleport to the Monastery. Once you reach there, take the southern ladder to go upstairs and use the cage on the Scorpion to catch it. Also, if you have never been upstairs before, you may have to speak with Abbot Langley to join their group and get access.
Now to catch the last one, head to the Barbarian Village to locate the merchant named Peksa. You can help him in the Helmet Shop. He will tell you that he gave it to a relative at the Barbarian Outpost as a gift. So, use your Games Necklace or Minigame Teleport to teleport to the Outpost, and then use the cage on the Scorpion wandering around within the entrance of the Agility Area to catch it. Since you have caught the three Scorpions that were running loose, head back to speak to Thormac to complete the quest.
