OSRS Kraken Guide: The Easiest AFK Slayer Boss
Oct-27-2025 PSTThe Kraken is one of the most iconic Slayer bosses in Old School RuneScape. Requiring 87 Slayer to kill, it is not to be confused with the lesser variant, the Cave Kraken. Even though the boss and the mini-variant differ in scale, you will still need a Kraken task to fight either version.

If you've ever wondered why so many high-level players rack up thousands of Kraken kills, the answer is simple: the boss is extremely easy, highly AFK, and very rewarding for its low requirements.
Requirements
The Kraken doesn't demand much compared to other Slayer bosses. Here's what you should aim for:
87 Slayer – mandatory to fight.
75 Magic – recommended minimum, as it unlocks the Trident of the Seas/Swamp. Anything higher is a bonus.
75+ Hitpoints – helps survive longer trips.
70 Defense – suggested so you can wear strong defensive gear like Karil's or Blessed D'hide.
On top of this, unlocking Fairy Tale Part II – Cure a Queen is highly recommended (at least to the point where you can use fairy rings). This makes traveling to the Kraken Cave much easier.
Recommended Gear Setup
Since Kraken's attacks are typeless magical ranged damage, you cannot use protection prayers. The best strategy is to balance Magic DPS gear with defensive armor to mitigate damage.
Best-in-Slot Gear:
Head: Slayer Helmet (imbued if possible)
Amulet: Occult Necklace
Cape: Imbued God Cape (normal God Cape works too)
Body/Legs: Karil's, Blessed D'hide, or Arceuus robes for budget setups. Ancestral is BiS if you have it.
Weapon: Trident of the Swamp / Trident of the Seas. Very rich players can use a Shadow or Nightmare Staff.
Shield/Off-hand: Book of Darkness. Alternatives include Odium Ward or Twisted Buckler.
Gloves: Tormented Bracelet (Barrows Gloves or Regen Bracelet as budget options).
Boots: Eternal Boots > Infinity Boots > Mystic Boots.
Ring: Imbued Ring of Suffering > Imbued Seers' Ring > Brimstone Ring.
Inventory Setup
Kraken's inventory is straightforward and forgiving. You'll need:
Fishing Explosives (1 per kill, buy from any Slayer Master).
Rune Pouch (for teleports or utility spells).
Teleport options:
Fairy Ring AKQ (fastest route).
Piscatoris Teleport Scrolls (cheap GE alternative).
Ring of Dueling / Ardougne Cloak for banking and fairy ring travel.
Food: Sharks, Manta Rays, or similar.
Optional: Imbued Heart for extra magic damage.
Getting There
The fastest way is via the fairy ring code AKQ. From there, run west to the cave entrance. Inside, you can choose:
Public instance (free, but other players may interfere with drops).
Private instance (25,000 coins per entry, taken from your bank).
Private rooms let you AFK safely.
Items remain on the ground for 30 minutes.
Warning: dying clears all items on the floor.
How to Kill Kraken
Kraken is one of the most straightforward bosses in OSRS:
1. Enter the room and use a Fishing Explosive on the central whirlpool.
2. This summons the Kraken.
3. Simply attack and AFK until it dies.
That's it—no special mechanics, no phases, no dangerous abilities. The only thing to watch for is incoming chip damage over time, which you can out-heal with food drops or your inventory supplies.
Why Kraken Is Popular
Extremely AFK: You only need to click once per kill.
Consistent Drops: Rune gear, magic seeds, supply drops, and the chance at the Kraken Tentacle and Jar of Dirt.
Long Trips: With good food and defense, you can camp here for hours.
It's no wonder Kraken is one of the most farmed Slayer bosses in the game.
Final Thoughts
The Kraken is perfect for players who want a low-effort, high-reward Slayer boss. With minimal requirements, simple mechanics, and easy access through fairy rings, it's one of the best money-making and Slayer training methods in OSRS.
