Old School RS: How to Complete Darkness of Hallowvale Quest

Jul-29-2025 PST

Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is filled with dark secrets, ancient legends, and sinister plots — and few questlines capture this atmosphere as well as the Myreque series. One of its most iconic installments is Darkness of Hallowvale, a lengthy, story-rich quest that continues your battle against the vampyres of Morytania. This quest is filled with puzzles, platforming, stealth, and a trip deep into the heart of vampyre-controlled lands.

Old School RS: How to Complete Darkness of Hallowvale Quest

If you’re ready to uncover what’s lurking in the shadows of Meiyerditch and beyond, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know to complete Darkness of Hallowvale.

Quest Requirements

Before you begin, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

Skill Requirements:

5 Construction

20 Agility

22 Thieving

Higher Agility is recommended for the rooftop navigation sections, though 20 is the minimum required.

Quest Requirements:

In Aid of the Myreque

In Search of the Myreque

Nature Spirit

Priest in Peril

Items Required:

Tinderbox

Hammer

50 OSRS GP

Pickaxe

Soft clay

Steel nails (6)

Plank (2)

It’s also smart to bring food, a teleport out of Morytania (like Ectophial or Drakan’s Medallion if you’ve unlocked it later), and lightweight armor or none at all for the agility sections.

Starting the Quest

To start the quest, head to Burgh de Rott and speak to Veliaf Hurtz in the underground hideout beneath the inn. He’ll explain that your next task involves infiltrating Meiyerditch, the vampyre-controlled city, and locating the rebel leader Safalaan.

Part 1: Entering Meiyerditch

After speaking to Veliaf, leave Burgh de Rott and head north through Mort'ton and Mort Myre Swamp toward the Myreque boat on the river. This boat will take you into Meiyerditch.

Once you arrive, you’ll need to navigate the crumbling, labyrinthine slums of the city to locate the Myreque hideout.

Part 2: Rooftop Agility Course and Navigating the City

One of the quest’s main challenges is navigating through Meiyerditch via the rooftops and broken buildings.

Key tips for this section:

Search doors, climb walls, and use ropes and floor gaps to make your way north.

Avoid vampyre patrols if possible.

Look for climbable shelves, floorboards, and planks to navigate through buildings.

If you get lost, there’s a handy in-game map option via the quest journal that can help.

Your goal is to reach Old Man Ral’s house. Speak with him, and he’ll offer cryptic advice about how to find the hideout.

Part 3: Finding Safalaan and the Myreque Hideout

After leaving Old Man Ral’s house, continue navigating through the city by heading north. You’ll eventually reach a location where you can climb over a wall and find a building with a bed you can push aside, revealing a trapdoor.

Go down the trapdoor to discover Safalaan and the Myreque hideout. Speak to Safalaan and his lieutenants to receive your next mission: investigate the mysterious Laboratory Ruins.

Part 4: Exploring the Laboratory Ruins

You’ll now head north again, through more rooftop routes, until you reach the Temple Ruins. This area requires both agility and puzzle-solving.

Important tasks here:

Light wall sconces using your tinderbox.

Activate floor tiles to open doors.

Use soft clay on a strange wall relief to copy an image (you’ll need this later).

Defeat Vyrewatch Sentinels if they confront you (though it's possible to avoid most encounters).

As you explore, you’ll uncover vital information about the Vyrewatch, the vampyre nobility, and their cruel control over the city.

Part 5: Returning to the Hideout and the Final Encounter

Once you’ve completed your investigation, return to the hideout. Along the way, you’ll face another rooftop navigation section — remember to mark your route for easier backtracking.

Back at the hideout:

Show Safalaan the clay impression you made.

Help the Myreque escape a vampyre ambush.

Fight or distract enemies as needed.

Use the pickaxe, planks, and nails to help build an escape route for the rebels.

Quest Completion and Rewards

After the final confrontation, escape Meiyerditch and return to Veliaf Hurtz in Burgh de Rott to complete the quest.

Rewards:

2 Quest Points

7,000 Agility XP

6,000 Thieving XP

2,000 Construction XP

Ability to use the Vyrewatch outfit disguise

Access to Drakan’s Medallion later in the series

Continuation of the Myreque storyline in A Taste of Hope

Tips for Success

Bring plenty of food for vampyre fights and failed agility jumps.

Equip light armor or no armor to reduce weight during rooftop sections.

Use Stamina potions if you have them.

Regularly check your quest journal map for navigation assistance.

Use the Ectophial as a quick escape if overwhelmed.

Final Thoughts

Darkness of Hallowvale is one of OSRS’s most atmospheric and narrative-rich quests, offering a genuine sense of danger as you infiltrate a vampyre city under constant threat. Its platforming mechanics, unique setting, and clever puzzles make it a memorable experience for any adventurer.

Completing this quest not only progresses the gripping Myreque storyline but also unlocks valuable XP and sets you on the path toward some of the most useful teleportation and vampire-slaying tools in Old School RuneScape.
