How to Get the Saradomin Godsword in OSRS

Apr-24-2026 PST

The Saradomin Godsword is one of the most popular special-attack weapons in Old School RuneScape, and from my experience, it's easy to see why. The healing effect on its special attack makes it incredibly useful for both PvM and survivability in tough situations. If you're aiming to get one, there are a few different paths you can take depending on how much time and effort you're willing to invest.

How to Get the Saradomin Godsword in OSRS

The Saradomin Godsword (often called SGS) requires 75 Attack to wield and stands out because of its unique special attack, “Healing Blade.” When I use it, a portion of the damage I deal gets converted into Hitpoints and Prayer restoration, which can make a huge difference during boss fights or extended trips.

It's especially helpful in places where sustaining health is important, so I've found it to be a reliable addition to many PvM setups.

How the Godsword Is Created

Unlike some weapons that drop as a complete item, the Saradomin Godsword must be assembled. You'll need to collect the following components:

Saradomin hilt

Godsword blade (made from three shards: shard 1, shard 2, shard 3)

Once you have all the pieces, you can combine them to create the finished weapon. From my perspective, getting all these parts is where the real grind begins.

Where to Get the Saradomin Hilt

The Saradomin hilt is dropped by Commander Zilyana, the boss of the Saradomin faction in the God Wars Dungeon. This is the most important and rare component of the weapon.

To access this boss, you'll need:

70 Agility (or a rope for access)

70 Hitpoints

A Saradomin item or kill count to enter the boss room

When I first fought Commander Zilyana, I quickly realized she's not an easy boss. She attacks quickly and moves around a lot, so having good gear and some experience with PvM mechanics really helps.

Getting the Godsword Shards

The three Godsword shards (1, 2, and 3) can be dropped by any boss or high-level monster in the God Wars Dungeon. This means you don't have to stick to just one boss to collect them, which is nice if you want some variety.

From my experience, these shards are rare but much more common than the hilt. If you spend enough time in the dungeon, you'll likely gather them naturally while going for other drops.

Drop Rates and Time Investment

Getting a Saradomin Godsword through drops can take a significant amount of time. The Saradomin hilt, in particular, is a rare drop, and you might need many boss kills before you see one.

Personally, I've had sessions where I got lucky early, and others where it felt like the drop would never come. It really depends on RNG, so patience is key if you're going this route.

If you don't feel like grinding bosses for hours, you can always buy the Saradomin Godsword directly from the Grand Exchange. This is honestly the method I prefer when I just want to use the weapon without dealing with RNG.

Of course, this requires a good amount of gold. Many players farm bosses, complete high-level activities, or flip items to build their wealth. Others choose faster methods and look to buy OSRS gold from trusted platforms like the RSgoldfast store to speed things up.

Having enough gold on hand makes it much easier to get high-end gear like the SGS without committing to long grinds.

Tips for Farming Commander Zilyana

If you decide to go for the drop yourself, here are a few things that helped me:

Use strong ranged gear: Many players prefer ranged setups for better mobility.

Bring stamina potions: Zilyana moves a lot, so you'll need to keep up.

Manage your inventory carefully: Balance food, potions, and gear for longer trips.

Practice positioning: Learning how to move efficiently can improve your survivability.

Once I got the hang of the fight, it became much smoother, but the learning curve can be a bit steep at first.

In my opinion, the Saradomin Godsword is absolutely worth getting if you do a lot of PvM. The healing and prayer restoration from the special attack can extend your trips and reduce supply usage, which is always a plus.

Even though there are other powerful weapons in the game, the SGS still holds its place as a versatile and reliable option.

Getting the Saradomin Godsword in OSRS comes down to your playstyle. You can grind Commander Zilyana and collect the shards yourself, or you can save time and buy the weapon using gold.

From my experience, both methods have their pros and cons. Grinding can feel rewarding when you finally get the drop, while buying it lets you skip the randomness and start using the weapon right away. Whether you choose to farm it or buy OSRS gold through options like the RSgoldfast store to afford it, the Saradomin Godsword is a powerful addition to any account.
